Called candidly as a warm up to Mount Kilimanjaro, it is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and second highest in Tanzania after Kilimanjaro. It’s a perfect place to get acclimatized and prepare for the harsh environment of the high altitudes. With a height of 4,562 meters, Mount Meru is an ideal trekking spot for both inexperienced and professionals alike. Over a century ago, the intact crater was blown apart due to eruption which resulted in the formation of crater in Mount Meru as we now know. It’s also been theorized to have been taller than Mount Kilimanjaro before the eruption.
