Southern Circuit
Some of the most remarkable and exceptional best-kept secrets in Tanzania lie in the Southern Circuit. From the diverse landscapes of Mikumi to the pristine mountain ranges of Udzungwa National Park, you can just do so much here. The Southern Circuit Safari route is not part of the regular tourist trail, and hence receives lesser tourist as compared to northern part which gives the parks a quiet atmosphere.
Here Are The Main National Parks In The Southern Circuit:
- Mikumi National Park. Frequently compared with Serengeti National Park because of the diverse landscape, it is the fourth largest national park with areas mostly covered with baobabs, black hardwood trees, and grasslands. This is one of those parks in Tanzania that guarantees year-round sighting of wildlife.
- Selous Game Reserve. Selous is the largest game reserve and is one of the only hunting spots in Tanzania. The diverse land is made up of the concoction of woodlands, rolling hills, rocky outcrops, swamps, rivers, lakes, and savannahs. The great Rufiji River flowing through it is the lifeblood of this park the shores of which hosts most of the plant life, bird population, and animal species. Together with Mikumi NP, it forms a unique ecosystem housing various endemics.
- Ruaha National Park. The largest national park in Tanzania which is remote at the same time is a perfect wilderness for a day or two Southern Circuit Safari With the size of about 20,226 square kilometers, it accommodates wide range of life forms which includes four of the African Big Five along with endangered African wild dog.
- Udzungwa Mountain National Park. Getting funded by the World Wildlife Fund, this national park has great environmental significance. With more than 400 bird species, 2500 plant species, and six primate species living in this park, it has the second biggest biodiversity in Tanzania.
